Tracking Your Cycle
This schedule of events should help you to plan the month and allow for the gender
selection process to take place. The schedule will need to be specific to you and
your cycle and specifying this to you can be accomplished by discussing your cycle
with Jessica.
Cycle Day 1 (the 1st day of full flow of your menstrual cycle)
Please text Jessica at 502-417-5017 or 1-800-766-0304 to inform her of your cycle
day 1. You may leave a message or email her at
jessica@chooseagender.com with this same information.
Cycle Day 3
From this point in your cycle, it is highly recommended that you and your partner
begin to use a barrier method of contraception such as condoms or diaphragm. It
will be very important that you continue to use this barrier during intercourse
until 7 days after your insemination as you may become pregnant before or after
you actually detect your positive ovulation, therefore interfering with the success
of the gender selection.
Cycle Days 6-9
Depending on the length of your average cycle, you will be directed in cycle day
1 the exact cycle day you should begin using an ovulation predictor kit (OPK). It
is important to test everyday at the same time until you receive a positive test
stick. In order not to deplete the semen reserve before the sample is given for
gender selection, it is important for your partner to abstain from masturbation
or ejaculation at least 72 hour prior to positive ovulation. It is important to
know the average ovulation of each month, so that you and your partner can plan
accordingly. For most 28-30 day cycles, it is safe to have the last ejaculation
on cycle day 10, and then to begin the abstinence.
Positive Ovulation Test Day
As soon as you receive your positive OPK (ovulation predictor kit)test, you need
to call Jessica to schedule your sample drop off time as well as your insemination
time, usually the next day. Please read further for the OPK testing instructions.
Insemination Day
As you would have called the day before, you will know that the sample drop off
time depending on the week day and appointment availability.
Your partner can either come to our office to collect a semen specimen with or without
you, or he may collect the semen sample at home as long as the sample if delivered
to us within 40 minutes from the time of collection. A semen analysis will be done
on each sample of the sperm that is provided for gender selection procedures. The
cost of this semen analysis is included in your package price. Your full payment
for the cycle will be due at this time. Your insemination will be 1-2 hours from
the time of drop off and you will be instructed what time to return to our office
if you do not choose to wait. The insemination will take about 25 minutes. After
being inseminated, you will lie down on the exam table for 15 minutes, and then
you will be able to leave for the day. Please read further for semen sample collection
instructions.
Testing for Pregnancy
Once you have missed your period, or 14 days from the insemination, you may take
a home pregnancy test. If the test indicates a positive result, you may opt to have
a blood pregnancy test done in order to verify that your hCG level and Progesterone
level are within a normal range, indicating a good pregnancy. You may also opt to
have this blood work repeated once a week to verify that your levels increase in
the normal ranges until an ultrasound can detect that the pregnancy is in the uterus
(usually around 5-6 weeks). This blood work can be ordered by our office or by your
OB/GYN. It is covered by insurance in most cases, but you will want to check with
your particular provider. The cost of this ultrasound, blood work and of the weekly
analysis by our doctoris not included in your package price. This is an optional
service. Please see additional services for further information including pricing.
During your Pregnancy
We ask that you call or email Jessica once every other month to update her on your
pregnancy. We will also require that if you have an ultrasound to determine the
baby’s gender, you contact Jessica as soon as possible with those results. If you
choose not to determine the baby’s gender while in utero, and wait for the delivery
date to find out, that someone contact Jessica by phone or email to report the gender
of your baby. A copy of the birth certificate will need to be mailed or faxed to
our office within one month of your delivery date. This information is for tracking
purposes only and will be kept strictly confidential.
Example calendar of events for tracking your cyle is below. Remember cycle day one
is the first day of full flow with your menstrual cycle. This calendar is an example
on a regular 28 day cycle. This is not a portrayal of everyone's cycle and yours
may vary.
